Heat Pump Service

Sol Aire Air Conditioning provides comprehensive heat pump services in Sanford, FL and across the surrounding communities, helping homeowners and businesses enjoy efficient year round comfort from a single piece of equipment.

Professional Heat Pump Installation in Sanford, FL

Heat pumps work especially well in Florida’s mild climate, where the same equipment handles both cooling and heating efficiently throughout the year. Sol Aire Air Conditioning begins every heat pump installation with a complete load calculation that accounts for your home size, insulation, ductwork, and comfort goals. Proper sizing matters even more with heat pumps than with traditional split systems, since oversizing reduces both efficiency and humidity control during the long cooling season. Our licensed and insured technicians install heat pumps from trusted manufacturers including Daikin and Mitsubishi, both of which offer industry leading efficiency ratings and reliability. As a Daikin Pro and Mitsubishi Diamond certified dealer, we install premium variable speed equipment that adjusts output to actual demand for superior comfort and energy savings. Each installation includes thorough evaluation of existing electrical service, refrigerant line set condition, ductwork compatibility, and condensate drainage requirements. We discuss SEER2 and HSPF2 efficiency ratings during the consultation so the equipment choice matches your priorities. Our crews protect floors and furnishings, work cleanly, and remove all old equipment along with packaging materials before leaving. After installation, we run thorough system testing across both cooling and heating modes to verify proper refrigerant charge, airflow, and electrical operation. Financing options make premium heat pump equipment accessible, and every installation includes a complete walkthrough of operation, warranty registration, and recommended maintenance schedule.

I’m so glad I switched to Sol Aire for my HVAC repair and maintenance. After multiple visits from another company that couldn’t diagnose the issue, it was such a relief to finally get answers. Roberto and Carlos were incredibly thorough. They took the time to carefully inspect both my indoor and outdoor units, quickly identified the problem, and fixed it efficiently. Their professionalism and attention to detail really stood out. What impressed me just as much was the overall customer service. From start to finish, the experience was seamless. Mandilyn and Juana Luisa were fantastic—helpful with scheduling, proactive in communicating when the technician was on the way, and thoughtful enough to follow up afterward to make sure everything went well. It’s rare to find a company that delivers both technical expertise and excellent customer care. Highly recommend!

We had Sol Aire come out to look at my mom’s HVAC system which was over 24 years old and had finally gave out. This was our second quote and we chose them because of their honesty and professionalism. Sam from Sol Aire was fantastic. He took the time to answer all of my questions as well as my mom’s and he gave us honest feedback without any pressure. On the day of installation the team arrived on time and were extremely professional throughout the entire process. The owner Lorenzo was even onsite for part of the day to check the quality of the work. He introduced himself to my mom and even took a moment to speak with me over Facetime which I really appreciated. The team Jason, Roberto and Carlos were courteous, professional and very respectful of my mom’s home. They cleaned everything up when they were done and were especially patient in helping my mom get set up with the app on her phone. Mandilyn in the office was also super helpful. She called my mom multiple times to keep her updated and followed up afterward to make sure everything was going well. From start to finish the service was outstanding. I highly recommend Sol Aire... A+ experience!

I've been through multiple different AC companies and haven't had much luck finding one I'm happy with..... until this one. It had been a while since I had maintenance done and I wanted to get my system checked before the summer heat. I had gotten their flyer at my door a few weeks back and decided to try them out. I'm extremely happy I did! I called on a Thursday and they were already able to come out Monday afternoon. Before they arrived they texted and called to let me know they were on the way. I also received an email with their 2 names and pictures through a service that verifies their identities, just so you know who will be coming out. They were both extremely nice and professional and they took plenty of time to clean and check my system out. They also took pics of everything they did, before and after, and showed me them before I paid. My 10 year old AC system looks almost brand new again! Not only that but my whole house smells incredible thanks to the cleaners they used! If this is the level of service and professionalism they demonstrate moving forward, then I just found my go-to AC company from this point on. Well done Sol-Aire!

It was easy to make the appointment, they came exactly on time, and did the work promptly and professionally. I felt they were interested in making sure I was being served, not that they were just there to make a buck. They make some suggestions, but didn't push anything on me. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will use their service again in the future.

Our Heat Pump Service

Sol Aire Air Conditioning brings deep expertise to every heat pump project across Sanford and the surrounding Central Florida region. Heat pumps offer significant advantages for Florida homes, providing efficient cooling during long hot summers and electric heating during the relatively short cooler months. Our team approaches every project with attention to proper sizing, refrigerant management, and the controls that make these systems work efficiently. We service single family homes, multi family properties, retail spaces, and small commercial buildings throughout Seminole and Volusia counties. Each project begins with a thorough conversation about your comfort needs, energy goals, and any concerns with the existing system. Our technicians hold current certifications, complete ongoing training, and stay updated on the latest technology from leading manufacturers. Clear communication from the first phone call through the final invoice sets our work apart from contractors who treat customers as transactions. That commitment to old fashioned customer service drives every interaction with the homeowners and business owners we serve.

Routine maintenance keeps these systems operating at peak efficiency throughout their working life. Florida equipment runs nearly year round, accumulating more total operating hours than similar units in cooler climates. During a tune up, our technicians inspect both indoor and outdoor coils for dirt and debris that reduce efficiency. The outdoor unit receives careful cleaning, since blocked condenser coils can reduce efficiency by twenty percent or more. Refrigerant pressures get measured and verified against manufacturer specifications for both cooling and heating modes. The reversing valve, which switches the system between cooling and heating operations, gets tested for proper function. Defrost controls receive testing to verify they operate correctly during cold weather operation. Electrical components including capacitors, contactors, and motors all get inspected for wear or developing problems. Filter changes, condensate drain clearing, and thermostat calibration complete the visit, along with a written report covering all findings.

Repair calls represent the most common reason homeowners first contact us about their systems. Issues like insufficient cooling, weak heating, ice buildup on the outdoor unit, unusual noises, or short cycling all warrant prompt professional attention. Common repairs include capacitor replacement, contactor replacement, refrigerant leak repair, defrost board replacement, and reversing valve service. Compressor issues require careful diagnosis to determine whether repair makes economic sense or replacement is the better path forward. Our trucks carry universal parts that fit most major brands, which means most repairs finish during the first visit. We work on Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, Daikin, Mitsubishi, and many other manufacturers. After every repair, we test the system through complete cycles in both cooling and heating modes to verify proper operation. Honest assessments help homeowners decide when continued repairs make sense and when replacement becomes the smarter long term investment.

The dual function nature of this equipment creates both efficiency advantages and unique service considerations. A single piece of equipment handles both cooling and heating, which simplifies installation and ongoing maintenance compared to separate cooling and heating systems. These systems move heat rather than create it, which makes them significantly more efficient than electric resistance heating during mild weather. Florida’s relatively warm winter temperatures fall within the ideal operating range, delivering good efficiency even on the coldest nights typically seen in Central Florida. Supplemental electric heat strips provide backup capacity for unusually cold weather, though these elements rarely activate during normal Florida winters. Modern variable speed models maintain efficiency across wider temperature ranges than older single stage equipment. Two stage and modulating compressors adjust output to actual demand, which improves comfort and reduces energy use during partial load conditions that represent most operating hours.

Energy efficiency represents one of the biggest reasons Florida homeowners choose this type of equipment. Modern units achieve SEER2 ratings well above sixteen, with premium variable speed models reaching twenty SEER2 or higher. The corresponding HSPF2 heating efficiency ratings deliver heating costs that beat traditional electric furnaces by significant margins. Variable speed compressors and ECM blower motors reduce electrical consumption while improving comfort consistency. Smart thermostats add another layer of efficiency through learning algorithms and scheduling features. Florida utility rebates sometimes apply to qualifying high efficiency installations, and federal tax credits may be available for certain ENERGY STAR equipment. We help customers compare projected energy savings against equipment costs so the math makes sense for their specific situation. Indoor humidity control matters as much as temperature control in Florida, and properly sized variable speed systems deliver superior dehumidification performance. The combination of lower bills, better comfort, and longer equipment life makes premium equipment a smart choice for many Florida homeowners.

Selecting the right contractor matters significantly because these systems involve more complex controls and refrigerant management than basic equipment. Sol Aire Air Conditioning carries proper Florida licensing, current EPA refrigerant certifications, and manufacturer credentials that protect customers throughout every project. Our technicians complete background checks before joining the team, which gives families confidence about who works inside their home and around their equipment. We provide free estimates with honest recommendations and no high pressure sales tactics. Pricing stays transparent from initial quote through final invoice, with no surprise charges added after work begins. Our customer reviews from Sanford area homeowners and businesses reflect consistent quality, fair pricing, and responsive communication. We answer the phone, return calls promptly, and show up when promised. Building long term relationships with the communities we serve drives every choice we make as a company.

Most Common Heat Pump Questions

Heat pumps combine cooling and heating into a single piece of equipment that operates year round. Homeowners often have practical questions about how heat pumps work, what to expect during operation, and how they compare to traditional separate heating and cooling systems.

A heat pump operates much like a traditional air conditioner during cooling mode, using refrigerant to move heat from inside the home to the outdoor environment. The fundamental difference appears in heating mode, when the system reverses its refrigerant flow to extract heat from outdoor air and bring it inside. This heat transfer process makes heat pumps significantly more efficient than electric resistance heating, since the equipment moves existing heat rather than creating new heat from electrical energy. Even on cold winter mornings, outdoor air still contains substantial heat energy that the refrigerant cycle can capture and concentrate.

The reversing valve serves as the key component that distinguishes heat pumps from cooling only equipment. This specialized valve changes refrigerant flow direction based on whether the system needs to cool or heat the home. Defrost controls handle another unique aspect of heat pump operation, periodically melting any ice that accumulates on the outdoor coil during cold weather heating. The defrost cycle briefly reverses operation back to cooling mode while using indoor air to melt outdoor coil frost. Modern heat pumps use demand defrost rather than timed defrost cycles, which improves efficiency by only defrosting when actually needed.

Florida’s mild climate makes heat pumps an excellent choice for most homes. Outdoor temperatures rarely drop low enough to challenge modern heat pump performance during winter months. Backup electric heat strips provide supplemental capacity on unusually cold mornings, though these resistance elements activate only briefly during typical Florida winters. The same equipment handling both cooling and heating simplifies installation, maintenance, and operation compared to separate systems for each function. Customers appreciate the elegant simplicity of having one well sized heat pump rather than coordinating an air conditioner with a separate furnace.

Most residential heat pump installations finish within one full day when the project involves a straightforward replacement of existing equipment. Our crews arrive early in the morning, complete removal of the old system, install the new heat pump components, and run final testing before leaving the same day. Projects involving additional work like refrigerant line set replacement, electrical upgrades, or ductwork modifications sometimes extend into a second day. New construction installations follow different timelines that coordinate with broader building schedules.

Several factors influence the installation timeline beyond simple equipment swaps. Outdoor unit placement requires proper clearances around the cabinet, level pad installation, and electrical disconnect mounting. Indoor air handler installations involve duct connections, electrical wiring, condensate drainage, and refrigerant line connections. Ductless mini split heat pumps require additional time for indoor unit mounting and refrigerant line routing through walls. Permits required by local building departments sometimes affect when work can begin, though our team handles permit applications and inspection scheduling so homeowners do not have to navigate the process.

Once installation completes, the startup procedure includes refrigerant charge verification through superheat and subcooling measurements. We test operation in both cooling and heating modes to confirm proper reversing valve function and capacity in each direction. Defrost controls receive testing, electrical loads get verified, and the thermostat gets configured for the specific equipment. Homeowners receive a complete walkthrough covering operation, filter replacement, warranty registration, and recommended maintenance. Most customers find the entire process smoother than expected because our team communicates clearly at every step from initial estimate through final commissioning.

Heat pumps benefit from professional service twice each year due to the year round operation that distinguishes them from cooling only systems. Spring maintenance prepares the cooling function for hot Florida summers, while fall service addresses the heating mode components before winter operations begin. Single annual service visits leave half the year without recent professional attention to either cooling or heating functions. Twice yearly visits catch developing issues in each operating mode before they cause comfort problems or expensive failures.

Manufacturer warranty requirements often specify documented annual service as a minimum for warranty coverage. Many premium manufacturers including Daikin and Mitsubishi require professional installation and ongoing service through certified dealers to maintain extended warranty coverage. Skipping maintenance can void valuable warranty protection on expensive components like compressors and control boards. Our maintenance documentation supports warranty claims when needed, providing the service records manufacturers require.

Our Aire-mazing Maintenance Plan automates the entire scheduling process with two service visits per year, priority appointment access, repair discounts, and automatic reminders. Plan members never have to remember when service is due or call to schedule appointments. The investment in regular maintenance typically pays for itself through lower energy bills, fewer repairs, and longer equipment life. Most heat pumps serviced regularly outlast neglected systems by several years, which represents significant savings when expensive replacement equipment can be delayed. Customers appreciate the peace of mind that comes from knowing their heating and cooling system receives consistent professional attention.

Several warning signs indicate that a heat pump needs professional repair attention before problems worsen or cause complete system failure. Insufficient cooling during summer or weak heating during winter often points to refrigerant issues, compressor problems, or reversing valve faults. Unusual noises during operation deserve prompt attention, since grinding, squealing, hissing, or banging sounds typically indicate mechanical issues with the compressor, fan motors, or refrigerant flow. Short cycling, where the unit turns on and off rapidly, can indicate thermostat issues, refrigerant problems, or improperly sized equipment.

Ice buildup on the outdoor unit during winter operation sometimes indicates defrost control problems, though normal defrost cycles temporarily produce frost that melts on schedule. Persistent ice that builds up over hours or days needs professional diagnosis to identify the underlying cause. The system stuck in one mode without responding to thermostat changes between cooling and heating typically indicates reversing valve issues. Higher than normal electric bills without changes in usage patterns often signal declining efficiency from a struggling heat pump.

Water leaking around the indoor air handler usually means a clogged condensate drain line or failed condensate pump. Strong odors during operation, especially burning smells or musty odors, deserve immediate attention from a qualified technician. The auxiliary heat strips activating frequently during mild weather often indicates heat pump capacity issues that the system tries to compensate for through expensive backup heating. Our diagnostic approach identifies actual root causes rather than just treating symptoms. Honest recommendations help homeowners understand exactly what is happening with their equipment and what options exist for resolution.

Heat pumps in Florida generally last between ten and fifteen years, which falls below the national average due to the demanding year round operation and our climate conditions. The same equipment that handles both cooling and heating accumulates significantly more operating hours than separate cooling only or heating only systems. Salt air in coastal communities accelerates corrosion on outdoor unit components, though Sanford area homes avoid the worst coastal exposure issues. Heavy cooling loads during long summers create the bulk of total equipment wear over the system lifetime.

Several factors influence how long any particular heat pump lasts. Installation quality affects longevity significantly, since proper sizing, refrigerant charge, and electrical connections all reduce stress on components over time. Maintenance history shows direct correlation with equipment lifespan, as systems serviced regularly consistently outlast neglected units. Premium brands like Daikin and Mitsubishi often outperform budget equipment by several years when properly maintained. Variable speed equipment sometimes lasts longer than single stage systems because reduced cycling means less mechanical and electrical stress on components.

When heat pumps reach twelve to fifteen years old, replacement usually makes more sense than major repairs. Modern equipment offers significantly better efficiency, improved humidity control, and quieter operation compared to older systems. Refrigerant changes have also moved the industry away from older R 22 refrigerant toward newer alternatives, which affects repair costs on older equipment. Our team provides honest assessments based on actual system condition, repair history, and remaining useful life. Customers appreciate that we never push replacement on equipment with meaningful service life remaining.

Heat pumps work exceptionally well for heating in Florida winters because outdoor temperatures rarely drop low enough to challenge modern equipment. Central Florida winters typically see overnight lows in the forties and fifties with daytime highs in the sixties and seventies, all of which fall well within ideal heat pump operating ranges. The few nights each year with temperatures below freezing represent brief exceptions rather than typical winter conditions. Modern heat pumps maintain useful capacity and good efficiency down into the twenties, which means Florida heating loads rarely push equipment near operational limits.

Heat pump heating efficiency dramatically outperforms electric resistance heating across the temperature ranges Florida sees during winter. Where electric furnaces or strip heaters convert one unit of electrical energy into one unit of heat, heat pumps move two to four units of heat for each unit of electricity consumed. This efficiency difference shows up directly on winter electric bills, with heat pump heating costs often running half or less of what equivalent electric resistance heating would cost. The corresponding HSPF2 efficiency ratings on modern equipment quantify this advantage with specific numeric ratings.

Supplemental electric heat strips provide backup capacity for unusual cold weather, though these resistance elements activate only briefly during typical Florida winters. The auxiliary heat function kicks in when outdoor temperatures drop low enough that heat pump capacity alone cannot maintain comfort, or during brief defrost cycles that temporarily reverse system operation. Modern controls activate auxiliary heat only when actually needed rather than running these expensive backup elements continuously. Customers concerned about winter heating costs often find that their heat pump delivers warm, comfortable indoor temperatures at electric bills lower than friends with electric resistance heating systems.

The repair versus replace decision for heat pumps involves several factors beyond just the immediate repair cost. Equipment age matters significantly, since heat pumps beyond ten to twelve years old often face declining reliability even after major repairs. The fifty percent rule offers useful guidance, suggesting replacement when a single repair costs more than half the price of new equipment. Repair history factors heavily into the analysis, as systems with multiple service calls in recent years often signal broader deterioration throughout the unit.

Refrigerant considerations sometimes drive replacement decisions for older equipment. Heat pumps using older R 22 refrigerant face high recharge costs because this refrigerant has been phased out of production. Refrigerant leaks on R 22 systems often cost more to address than the value of remaining equipment service life. Newer refrigerants offer better environmental profiles and improved heat transfer characteristics that contribute to higher system efficiency. Our team explains refrigerant implications during repair discussions so customers understand the full picture beyond just the immediate repair cost.

Efficiency improvements strengthen the case for replacement in many situations. Heat pumps from ten or fifteen years ago typically operated at SEER ratings between ten and thirteen, while modern equipment achieves SEER2 ratings of fifteen, eighteen, or higher. Variable speed equipment delivers exceptional comfort along with industry leading efficiency. Our team provides honest recommendations based on your specific situation rather than pushing replacement when repair makes more sense. We share actual numbers including repair costs, expected remaining service life, and projected energy savings from new equipment. Financing options make replacement accessible when the math favors a new system.

A thorough heat pump maintenance visit covers both cooling and heating mode components since these systems serve both functions throughout the year. Our technicians inspect and clean the outdoor coil, which affects efficiency in both operating modes. The indoor coil receives inspection for dirt accumulation that restricts airflow and reduces capacity. Refrigerant pressures get measured and compared against manufacturer specifications, which involves separate checks for cooling and heating mode operation. The reversing valve receives specific testing to verify proper function in both directions.

Electrical components receive thorough attention during every maintenance visit. Capacitors get tested with a meter rather than just visually inspected, since these components fail commonly and cause many heat pump service calls. The contactor, which switches the compressor on and off, gets inspected for pitting and burning that indicate developing failure. Wire connections receive inspection for tightness, since loose connections cause overheating and component damage over time. The blower motor and outdoor fan motor get examined for proper operation, smooth bearings, and appropriate amp draw under load.

Defrost controls represent unique maintenance items specific to heat pumps. Our technicians verify proper defrost cycle initiation, duration, and termination during testing. The defrost sensor or thermostat gets inspected for proper function, since failed defrost controls cause ice buildup or excessive defrost cycles that waste energy. Auxiliary electric heat strips get tested for proper operation when needed, including verification that they cycle correctly rather than running continuously. Filter changes, condensate drain clearing, and thermostat calibration complete the visit. Each service ends with a written report covering all findings, completed work, and recommendations for any additional attention.
